New Google Algorithm, Better Rankings for High-Quality Content Websites

Recently Google announced their new algorithm. This new algorithm gives more importance to high quality content websites. See snippet below:

“This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites—sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful. At the same time, it will provide better rankings for high-quality sites—sites with original content and information such as research, in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and so on.” Ref:

As per their announcement, this will only be launched on for now then soon be rolled out to other countries ( this week). Does this mean that soon, the relevance of websites through back links will be surpassed by the dominance of websites with high quality contents?

To prevent confusions, PR (Page Rank) is different from SERP (Search Engine Result Page). PR determines your relevance in the World Wide Web while SERP determines your dominance in search engines. PR is like voting system, the higher your back links count, the higher your chance to get a higher page rank. While with SERP, the more effective you promote your keywords; the higher is your page row for search engine results.

In connection, what we really want is to top the search engines with our desired keywords, gaining a higher chance for traffics. Although PR is a great contribution to your online reputation and really does determine your higher importance among others, what can provide you a greater chance for search engine exposures is having high SERP, with or without PR.

There are several ways to top the SERP, see some effective tips below:

  • Node URL

After the domain name, putting your keywords within your URL is a strategy to gain higher importance in search engine. For example, if your keyword is “hire programmer”, instead of, you can use

  • Title and Header Tags

Google algorithm gives significance to contents within title and header tags so might as well use your keywords within these tags.

  • Relevant Contents

Provide relevant contents and use your keywords within your sentences. If you are running a corporate site, you can setup your own blog where you can always post fresh contents. Your blog site can also be your avenue to connect more with your target market.

  • Twitter

Twitter pages are already being indexed by Google. That is, you can gain higher SERP with effective tweets. Add keywords to your tweets and mention your username. Example, “hire web programmer http://www.yourlink @yourusername”

The new algorithm has not rolled out yet around the world and no one knows what the future might bring. Hence, most SEO specialists are aware that content is always the king when it comes to higher search engine results. But this time, not only content driven sites but it will be “high-quality content” sites, contents are not copied, making sense and useful which illustrates more fairness and logical rank rewarding. Google might change their minds the next day; therefore, being relevant, smart and always updated in promoting is essential.
